London Collections Men & Ambassador of Style David Gandy
It is was delightful to receive invites to cover various events surrounding the recent ‘London Collections: Men‘, which can only truly be described as the greatest showcase of menswear on the planet. LCM has seriously become the centre for creativity in menswear. Highlights for us this year have to be the Rake Magazine and Claridges Party, Samuel L. Jackson’s “One For The Boys” Fashion Ball, Marks & Spencer presents Best of British Spring 2015 and Dunhill & GQ Style’s party to celebrate London Collections: Men.
For us, without a doubt the ultimate Ambassador of style has to be Mr David Gandy, a man we have had the pleasure to meet on a few occasions in the past year. A true gentleman, whose smile can make a room swoon (we’ve seen it!), he is a solid combination of and certainly evokes that wonderful old school class of Steve McQueen, Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Clark Gable.
In his own words, “London Collections: Men again lead the international men’s fashion weeks with everyone looking just too remarkably stylish! It almost doesn’t matter what styles and trends were going on the actual runways. With some of the most influential fashion men in London sitting on the front row looking so impeccable, that in itself influences men across the world and that’s one of the most important things to me – to inspire people at home about style. Fashion can sometimes be seen as elitist to the outside world and I think that making it more tangible for people – and especially men – can only be a positive thing.”
We all get exposure to established and emerging designers showcasing their new collections. London Collections: Men is indeed the place you need to be if you want to see the best menswear has to offer, from the top end of Savile Row to the more urban casual wear.
Now back to David Gandy…. the world’s most recognisable male model who just goes from strength to strength. Following his starring role in Jennifer Lopez’s video “”First Love”, it was recently announced that the Model has designed a new range of men’s underwear and sleepwear exclusively for Marks & Spencer. The 28-piece “David Gandy for Autograph” collection will launch on September 18, and will be available in over 250 stores worldwide, as well as online.
Cary Grant once said “ My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can. “
– an adage that we believe David Gandy is certainly living up to.
