Critically Acclaimed Actor Stars on 50 Cent’s BLACK MAFIA FAMILY

Previously named one of Variety’s “10 Actors to Watch” leading man Russell Hornsby (THE HATE U GIVE, LINCOLN HEIGHTS, GRIMM, FENCES) is the next generation of Hollywood actor to take the throne as the king of film and television, with a starring role in the highly anticipated upcoming 50 Cent produced Starz series “Black Mafia Family,” premiering in September. Up next, he also has the film CHASE opposite Gerard Butler and a recurring role in the hit Netflix series “Lost in Space.”

“Black Mafia Family,” is inspired by the true story of two brothers who rose from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980’s and gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in this country. Hornsby plays Charles Flenory, the principled patriarch of the Flenory family and a struggling musician who uses faith, fortitude and humor to keep his family on the straight and narrow as he tries to save his son Terry from the outsized ambition and influence of his older brother Demetrius. The series is about love, kinship and capitalism in the pursuit of the American dream.

Hornsby has worked non-stop in Hollywood for over two decades and has recently turned in award-winning and buzzed about performances in films including FOX 2000’s THE HATE U GIVE where he starred as the male lead opposite Amandla Stenberg and Regina Hall, played a pivotal and mysterious character in CREED II opposite Michael B. Jordan and took a turn playing the storied Lincoln Rhyme character, made famous in film by Denzel Washington, for the NBC series “Lincoln Rhyme.”
